Mary Jaene Edmonds, 97, of Lakewood, CA, passed away on October 23, 2018. Mary Jaene was born on June 17, 1921, in St. Louis, MO.
She met her husband, James A. Edmonds, Jr., while at Woodbury College in Los Angeles. They married in 1941.
Mary Jaene and Jim loved their family two sons, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Mary Jaene doted on the grand- and great-grandkids every chance she got.
Mary Jaene was a designer, artist, collector, researcher, and writer. She is the author two books, Geometric Designs in Needlepoint, and Samplers & Samplermakers. Her sampler collection was featured at a 1991 exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, titled “An American Schoolgirl Art 1700-1850.”
Mary Jaene and Jim traveled around the world together, learning about different cultures, and researching schoolgirl samplers, education, and families.
She supported Jim’s businesses and government service with loyalty and pride.
Mary Jaene was the life of the party. Her sense of humor was apparent in every conversation with family, friends, and strangers.
As her niece, Nancy Flynn, said, “Mary Jaene was a spunky lady with class!”
Mary Jaene was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 2011. She is survived by her son James W. Edmonds of Mechanicsburg, PA, son S. Chris Edmonds of Conifer, CO, five grand children, and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the National Veterans Cemetery in Riverside, CA, on Saturday, June 1, 2019.
