We gather here to celebrate the joyous life of Marion Priscilla Williams. It was the sixth day of June 1940 in Bakersfield, California that Willie James and Eunice M. Williams welcomed their beautiful baby girl into the world. As the oldest living daughter, Marion always upheld her duty as the anchor to her siblings.
Marion moved to Sacramento, California with her family when she was five and remained there until she graduated from Grant Union High School. She later received her Associate Arts degree at Los Angeles City College in secretarial science. In June 1971, she went on to receive her Bachelors of Arts Degree from Cal State University in Long Beach. A year later she finished her teaching credential and began working for the Compton Unified School District. A year later, she moved to the Long Beach School District and taught their until her retirement. She continued attending school at night until she earned her Masters in Education with an emphasis in reading and a credential in special education.Years later, she returned to school and earned her second master's degree in counseling.
Marion met and married Raymond, her husband of almost 55 years, in Bakersfield, California. With a love of seeking greater opportunities, they moved to Los Angeles, California where they raised their two children. They purchased their first home in Compton and eventually settled in Lakewood, California. Their home was always open for those who needed help.
For 45 years she was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she held the position of department superintendent working with young people in first through sixth grades. She also supervised the Sunday school and junior church teachers.
She prided herself in education and the ability to help others further themselves. Marion allowed friends and family to live with her while completing their education and she provided a safe haven for those who just needed a place to stay. Marion was one of a kind and she embodied class and style. She loved to travel and shop! Let me repeat that. She loved to travel and shop! Marion and Raymond were world travelers and they visited places like Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Jamaica just to name a few. Her grandsons accompanied her on many occasions as they were the light of her life.
On Mother's Day, May 14, 2017, Marion Priscilla transitioned from this life to eternal life. She received the "Joy" that the Lord has promised her as it was her calling to be with Him. The imprint she has left on the hearts of those who knew her will never be forgotten.
Marion was preceded in death by her mother Eunice, her father, Willie James, sisters, Loretta and Loraine, and her brothers, Marshall and Ronald.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Raymond Sr.; her children, Raymond Jr. and Monique; grandsons, Ryan and Matthew; siblings, Willie James Jr., Richard, Norma, Linda, Diane, and Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
