Marie Antoinette Gaussa

1948 – 2022

Marie, a lifelong resident of San Pedro, passed away peacefully in her home on November 19, 2022, surrounded by family after being diagnosed with cancer in August.  She was 74.

She was born on August 9, 1948 and was raised with good morals and values.  After graduating from San Pedro High School, she started working as a legal secretary.  She was diligent and a hard worker.  In 1972, she was set up on a blind date that turned into 50 years of marriage to her loving husband, Larry.

She continued working part-time while raising her children.  She was a proud mother and treasured family and holiday traditions.  She also loved to cook, bake and clean.  She enjoyed her daily walks along the coast.  She volunteered with the Catholic Worker ministry to feed the poor and homeless for many years.  She was sincere, selfless and kind.  Her quick wit, beautiful smile, and contagious laugh was truly genuine.  Her kindness was adored by all.  She was strong, humble, vibrant and honest.  She will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Rosario and Rosalie Giacalone.  She is survived by her husband Larry, children Gregory and Deanna, brother Matthew (Ann) Giacalone, sister-in-law’s Joan (Jeff) Woods, Cathy (Bob) Jacobs, Stephanie Kokotakis, and brother-in-law’s Dennis (Yanna) Gaussa and Michael (Mariam) Gaussa.  She is also survived by her Uncle Vito Giacalone as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family gives a heartfelt thank you for the outpouring of love and support these past few months.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marie’s name to Curt’s Kitchen, 137 N. Pacific Avenue, San Pedro, CA 90731

Mass will be celebrated on November 30, 2022 starting at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in San Pedro.
