Margaret Louise Kirby (Peggy) , 80, passed away at her home on January 18, 2025. She was a loving sister, aunt, friend, and teacher.
Born in Montebello, California at Beverly Hospital on June 13, 1944, Peggy was the daughter of Leroy and Mary Donna Kirby. As a young teen and into her early 20’s, she was involved at the Armed Forces YMCA, where she volunteered and was quite popular amongst the servicemen and ladies. She had a unique openness and joyous spirit that was infectious and made everyone feel welcomed. Peggy was even crowned queen of the ball. She attended and graduated from St. Cyprian Elementary School and St. Anthony High School. She later went on to get her teaching credential from Cal State Fullerton.
Peggy started her teaching career at Our Lady of Soledad in 1972 and made the switch to Saint Alphonsus Elementary School for the majority of her 38 years with the Los Angeles archdiocese when she finally retired in 2010.
After she retired, Peggy became a very involved member of St. Cyprian Church, where she assisted with funerals, was part of the Eucharistic ministry, and had joined the Bible study group. She often crocheted during her free time and would be at the library on a daily. She enjoyed reading, reading and reading. Just give her a good book and she was in heaven. She also loved spending time with family and her friends (especially if a man was going to be there) and thoroughly enjoyed her travels.
Peggy is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Donna Kirby, her father, Leroy Kirby, and her sister Darlene Hunt. She is survived by her brother Larry Kirby(Debra), 4 Nieces and 2 Nephews - Donald Martin (Yvette), Jamie Kirby (Marcella), Jody Kirby (Jose), Julie Dangaran (Arnold), Christina Hunt, Theresa Faildo (Matt), 12 Grand Nieces and Nephews - Brittany, Ryan, Joseph, Bradley, Vincent, Makayla, Michael, Emma, Landon, Olivia, Harper, Hudson and 2 Great-Grand Niece/Nephew Malina and Lennox.
