Lonita Irene Hunt
February 10, 1931- March 14, 2016
Lonita Irene Hunt (Green) was born in the small southwest oil town of Healdton Oklahoma, on Feb 10, 1931 to Grant and Stella Green. She had an older sister named Vanelta. Raised in a Southern Baptist Church, her father Grant was a Deacon and led the music program while her mother Stella played the piano during church services.
Lonita met her future husband Carl Hunt while they were both in kindergarten. Little did they know what the future had in store for them. During school, Lonita excelled in anything musical. She loved to sing both in church, school music events and just around the house.
For a short time during WWII, her family moved to Long Beach to help with the war effort. Her dad worked in the shipyards while her mom worked as a riveter for McDonald Douglas. During that time, Lonita attended Wilson High school in Long Beach.
After returning to Oklahoma, she graduated high school and went to work for Ma Bell (Bell Telephone Company). About that time, Carl Hunt began to take interest in Lonita. It took Carl a bit of an effort to get her to notice him. One of the ways he made his interest know was to bug her while she was on dates. He also drove by her house blasting the air horn on his Halliburton drill truck. Finally, he got up the nerve to ask her out on a date. They dated for a short period of time before he asked Grant if he could marry his daughter. Grant reluctantly agreed and they were married June 28, 1953.
After they were married, they lived a short time in Healdton before moving to Long Beach looking for the streets of gold. Carl went to work in the oil refineries and Lonita held various jobs while being a homemaker and raising a family. After the children were raised and left the home, Lonita became more active in Ladies Oriental Shrine. She taught line dancing with the Stardusters, and she was a clown in the Bouloues.
She enjoyed traveling with Carl to places like Branson Missouri, camping in Yosemite and Mexico, went on cruises to Hawaii, Alaska and through the Panama Canal. She loved the color red, the Harry Potter series, country western music and dancing.
She leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Carl Hunt, two grown children Rick and his wife Shannon, Carla and her husband Bob, 5 Grandsons including Brenden and his girl friend Arcy, Bobby and his wife Alex, Russell and his wife Jennifer (one great grandchild on the way), Jared, Eric, two great grand children Ethyn and Emma, and other relatives and friends close and far.
She will be remembered and loved forever.
