Linda Doreen Carpenter Marker, 80, of Long Beach, California passed away on September 28, 2024 due to multiple medical issues.

Linda was born May 13, 1944 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the oldest daughter of Clayton John Carpenter and Helen Grace Collier Carpenter. Her younger siblings are Clayton Jay (Cheryl) Carpenter and Leona Maxine Carpenter. Due to her father’s military service they lived in several places when she was a child including Okinawa, Japan; Sumter, South Carolina; Landstuhl, Germany and Riverside, California but Long Beach became home in 1956. In 1961, Linda graduated from Jordan High School. While working at Clifton’s Cafeteria in about 1964, she met Glenn Allen Marker through his niece Teri Mollenhauer, who also worked there. He was too shy to talk to her but would sit at the counter drinking a soda to watch her work. Terry finally set them up on a date. After several years of dating they married on October 24, 1970 and their first home was in Lakewood. Their children are Theodore Jay, Ruby Lee, and Christopher Glenn. Ruby sadly died hours after birth. When Ted and Chris were 12 and 3, respectively, they moved to Linda's dream home in the Lakewood Village neighborhood of Long Beach.

One of Linda’s joys was working with young children and she worked for several years as a pre-school aide and teacher as well as volunteering in her boys’ classes. She also had a passion for singing and was involved in many singing groups including her high school choir, the Long Beach City College Vocal Jazz group, her church choir at Lakewood First United Methodist Church, and the senior singing group, The Choral Belles.

Linda is survived by her husband Glenn; sons Ted (Stephanie) and Chris (Thary); grandchildren Catherine Madison, Colin Ryan, Mackenzie Kaitlyn, Riley Thomas, and Brooklyn Kennedy; sister Leona, sister-in-law Cheryl, nephew and niece Jay and Allyson Carpenter.
