Lester Alexander Mindus Ph.D of La Palma
Dr. Les Mindus, who grew up in New Bedford MA and was a psychologist for over 50 years, died in Long Beach CA on May 7 surrounded by his loving family.
He was 80 years old, known for his gentle warmth and incisive mind. He was the eldest son of Dr. Walter Mindus, a surgeon, and Lily Dumont, a concert pianist, who both fled Germany in 1937. He graduated from New Bedford High School and Brandeis University, earned a Master's at Clark University and Ph.D at University of Maryland.
He married Arlene Benlifer in 1965 and had one son, Jason Michael Mindus. He later married to Mae Maxwell and was a loving father to her three daughters -Terra, Shannon and Mari. His brother, Paul David Mindus, lived nearby the past four years. Together with Jason and his wife Lisa Mindus, Les had strong family ties in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties. His niece, Sophia Rose Mindus, flew from London to provide him comfort and care.
He was kind, gentle, honest and courageous to his last breath.
