Leonard Alfred Welch was born on September 25th, 1932. He was born in Beloit, Wisconsin to Leonard Harold Welch and Helen Fink. He was the youngest child of three. Audrey and Joyce (Midge) were his older sisters. He moved to California when he was a child, and lived there for most of his life.
After graduating from Poly High School in Long Beach, he served in the United States Air Force for 8 years. Upon his return from the Air Force, he moved back to Long Beach.
He obtained a job as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service and retired from that job at the age of 55.
He met his wife, Delma Tomsic, by asking her to dance a polka. They married on June 30th, 1962. They both loved dancing and had a happy life together until her death by cancer in 2001.
They had a daughter, Mary-Helen, on June 1, 1963. She resides in Whittier, Ca with her husband of 26 years, Bryan Ebert.
He was member of St. Pancratius Church in Lakewood and worshiped there since moving to North Long Beach in 1962.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary-Helen, son-in-law Bryan, nephew John, and nieces Teri and Paula.
He is most known for his kindness, advice (even if you didn’t ask for it) and good humor. He loved to travel the globe, first with his family, with Delma after retirement, and finally with senior groups on day excursions. He also loved to fish and watch television- especially old movies and westerns.
He stayed independent and worked out at the senior gym until his lungs gave out on September 3rd, 2018.
He will be best remembered for his devotion to his family, faithful friends, devotion to God and the Catholic Church.
