Leon James Embry, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather left this earth peacefully on September 28, 2017 exactly 10 days after his 77 th birthday.
Born to Jim and Lou Nell Embry on September 18, 1940, they relocated from Oklahoma to southern California in 1943. At the age of 15, Leon moved to Los Angeles to become a ballet dancer and begin his lifelong love of the arts. He had an eye for intricate detail which manifested itself through his many unique and outstanding paintings. A craftsman extraordinaire, Leon had a passion for building precise model ships and airplanes along with hand machined steam engines. Leon could also be found in the kitchen as well as the workshop exhibiting his love for cooking and baking.
In 1961 he married his first wife, Elena and had 3 daughters, Gina, Nina and Tina. From 1973 until his death Leon was married to Charlene which whom he had two more daughters, Vanessa and Jennifer. Along with his wife and daughters, Leon is survived by his seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Service and remembrance will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 10am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4644 Clark Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90808. Refreshments will be served following the service.
