Lela Ruth Adney, known as “Ruth” to all her family and friends, passed unto God’s kingdom on 23 October 2022 at the age of 94. At her home in Long Beach, surrounded by family and friends, Ruth passed away peacefully. Ruth’s caregivers Ester and Cynthia were with Ruth and family. Ruth and family became very attached to Ester and Cynthia as they provided friendship and compassionate, loving care in Ruth’s final months.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Ruth, her son William, her sister Ina, niece Lisa, 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews.

On 23 March 1928 in Antioch, Arkansas, Ruth was born to Needham Walter and Mary Louette “Eddie” Pilcher. Ruth and her 5 brothers and 6 sisters worked hard on the family farm. Their home was a small 4 room house with no electricity but was built so that the water pump was in the kitchen. Providing care for her bed-ridden mother, Ruth quit school after the 6 th grade. In later years, Ruth worked several jobs including a short career with her younger sister Ina, as a fashion model at a local dress shop in Wilmington. As she did for her mother, Ruth spent her life caring for her family. She always put the welfare of her children and grandchildren above her own needs. Ruth never complained about anything and endeared herself to her caregivers and hospital staff. Ruth was a loving mother and our best friend as well. Growing up on a farm, Ruth’s love of gardening continued throughout her life. Ruth loved growing roses and many vegetables and fruits and could be found growing in the backyard of her home.

Ruth joins her family in heaven and is reborn in health and beauty as she now dances with the angels and enjoys the paradise of God’s garden. We will miss Ruth, but she will always be with us in our hearts and souls forever.

Till we meet again in everlasting life. We love you Mom.
