Lawrence Moore Profile Photo

Larry Moore, 62, of Lakewood, CA passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Los Alamitos Medical Center, in Los Alamitos, CA.

Larry was a beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend. He was a kind, generous, wise, honest, humorous (he could tell a story, or joke like no one else) hardworking and loving man. He loved his wife and daughter immensely. He and his wife shared many adventures and happy times together. He gave his daughter Emily so much love, support and guidance and helped her grow into a lovely young woman with great values, interests and insights which provided her with a sound footing for an amazing life. He was so proud of her. Larry was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 11, 1953, to parents Nihl and Marlee (Noga), but shortly thereafter they moved to Battle Creek, Michigan and eventually on to Chicago (Arlington Heights) where Larry spent the majority of his childhood. He had very fond memories of his life there, his friends, his school and let us not forget the sports. The Blackhawks and Cubs were his teams. His mom always told everyone how when the Hawks were on, young Larry would sit in front of the television with his red licorice and black cherry soda and wouldn’t move until the game was over. This continued throughout his life, less the red licorice and black cherry soda. When the Hawks finally won the Stanley Cup, Larry was ecstatic. After graduation from Eastern Illinois University, Larry began his career as an Environmental Scientist. He began in Mississippi, working for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, spent some time in Wyoming as a coal lab manager for Cordero Coal Mining Company and then on to California in the late 80’s where he worked in the environmental consulting field for many years and most recently was a regulator for the State of California Regional Water Quality Control Board. He loved his work. Larry was also an avid music lover. His passion was the blues, but any music would do, unless it was "pop" music, and those of us who knew him, know his feelings about that. He not only listened to music, but he studied it. He knew everything about the artists, their styles, the instruments, etc. Amazing, really.

Larry fought a long hard battle with diabetes. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, but he is now roving the universe with his dad and other family members who have gone before him. We’re sure that he’ll spend hockey season at the Madhouse on Madison and the baseball season at Wrigley Field…. We will keep his memories close. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Larry’s name to the American Diabetes Association, or Wounded Warriors. Survived by: Wife, Leslie; Daughter, Emily; Mother, Marlee; Father-In-Law, Richard Strong; BrotherTom; Sister Mary Hahn (Tony Hahn); Sister In Law, Stephanie Smith-Latham (Tony); Nieces, Lily Hahn and Sarah Hahn; Nephews, David Moore and Chris Smith
