LaVonne, daughter of Leo and Eve Locnikar, was born on March 11, 1949 in Minnesota. California became home when her parents moved here in 1951. She grew up in Lakewood and attended St. Cyprian’s Parochial School. She graduated from Lakewood High School in 1967.
In 1970, she met her future husband, Ralph Kruis. They were married August 7, 1971 and they settled in Lakewood to raise their family. They had four children: Kyle, Tobin, Colette, and Brigette.
LaVonne was a stay-at-home mom until all the kids were in school. She then worked for Long Beach Unified School District as a school clerk then secretary for 25 years.
Retirement plans were changed when her husband, Ralph, passed away suddenly in 2014.
Never one to sit still, even in retirement, she filled her time nurturing her grandchildren, gardening, vounterring, joining church groups, enjoying social activities, and taking trips with family members.
LaVonne will be remembered for her generous, loving spirit. She was always available to help family and friends when they were in need. She had a friendly nature and made friends easily. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.
