LaVine Mary Fitterer was born December 19,1938 and passed away September 9, 2024. She grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota with her 2 brothers and sister. When she was 14 her family moved to Los Angeles. One of the fun things she did in high school was to go dancing on the freeway! At that time the 405 was still being built. She would go with friends and park on the unfinished ramps, turn on the music and dance!
After she graduated from Bishop Conaty High School she immediately got a job as a stenographer for the LA Chamber of Commerce. She loved this job and being organized and busy. She met her husband, Sy, a couple of years later. They met at a polka dance hall where she went regularly with her family. Sy was also from North Dakota so they shared a common background. They married, bought a house in 1959 and became members of St Maria Goretti Parish. In the next 6 years they added 5 daughters to their home.
LaVine volunteered at St Maria Goretti school and church. Years later she worked as an office assistant at Covenant Manor, a retirement community. She retired in 2005.
Her faith was a very important part of her life. She loved God and the Church and her family. We have great memories of conversations around the kitchen table. As LaVine grew older and Alzheimers began to take its hold she couldn’t really join in the conversations but she always enjoyed sitting with her family and listening.
She is survived by her 5 daughters, 3 sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Donations can be made in her name to Alzheimers Association or Catholic Charities
