Lamar Benavides, 88, of Lakewood, California passed away April 11, 2019. Lamar was born to Esmerehildo “Hildo” and Adelaida Valle on February 5, 1931 in Oilton, Texas. In her early years she worked for HEB supermarket in Texas. Thereafter, she moved from Texas to California in which she lived in Carson/Long Beach where she worked and retired from a clothing distribution center in Torrance, California. Lamar was a loving and caring mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother whom always put others before herself. She was a devoted Catholic who always kept everyone in her prayers. She spent every morning reading her prayer books. She was very welcoming to all, and she always brightened the room with her warm smile and unforgettable laugh. She enjoyed all sports most especially football. Her favorite football teams were Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers. In her early years she loved gardening, tending to her flowers and spending time watering her yard. She enjoyed listening to Mariachis and Vicente Fernandez. Lamar enjoyed cooking and was well know for her homemade tortillas, enchiladas and breakfast eggs and potatoes. Recently, she enjoyed spending time watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren of Bakersfield and Lakewood, play sports. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered as the strong women she was and carried in our hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Julio, her 3 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by her sister Olga Saldivar, her 3 children: son, Hildo Silva; daughters Lourdes Gutierrez and Melissa (David) Porter. Grandchildren: Joe, Crystal, Richard, Austin, Lela, Teresa, David, Maria, Gabbi, Emily, Jason. Great Grandchildren: Jose, Richard, Ivan, Izi, Erica, Manny, Joey, Savannah and Best Friend Juanita Sven. The family would like to thank all those who have kept in touch with Lamar and held her in their prayers.
