Kent Harold Carlsen, age 76, of Long Beach, passed away suddenly on February 16, 2021. Kent was born on April 19, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa to Vern John Carlsen and Eleanor Blind Carlsen and the second of three sons; Brooks (elder) and Lance (younger.)

Kent graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1963 and entered the US Navy in August of 1968. He served from 1968 —1971 and was awarded the National Defense Service metal, Vietnam Service Metal with 2 bronze stars and the Combat Action Ribbon for his service.

After his honorable discharge, Kent graduated from California State University, Long Beach, bachelor’s degree in criminology, 1976. Kent worked as a Realtor and lived in Long Beach for over 50 years. Kent was so proud of Long Beach and would ask anyone “why would you want to live anywhere else in the world?” His sense of humor was evident as he would probe with many other questions to “get a rise out of you.” Kent enjoyed traveling, caring for his animals and he was generous to many organizations.

Kent is survived by his daughter Tina Silvaggio (Michael); grandson Joseph Silvaggio and granddaughter Katherine Silvaggio and his brother Lance Carlsen (Cindy); niece Lauren Carlsen and nephew John Noah Carlsen. Nephew Kurt Carlsen (Catherine); Dell Carlsen and Maddie Carlsen; Niece Kristen Carlsen; Ethan and Alex.

The service honoring Kent will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on March 9, 2021 at 12:30 pm. Funeral arrangement are entrusted to Luyben Dilday Mortuary in Long Beach, 562 425-6401. Memorial gifts in Kent’s name can be sent to Multiple Myeloma Foundation and Long Beach Animal Care Services.
