June Iris Thompson of Long Beach, passed away at the age of 82 years young on June 25, 2015. She is survived by her son, Jim and his wife Christine, daughter Patty and her husband Rick. June (Hutchings) Thompson, my mother, was 18 when she met my dad, 27, in England during World War II. He was in the Navy and they got married March 25, 1950. They moved from England to Oakland, California where later in the year I (Jim) was born. Eighteen months later my sister Patty came along in Florida. Our mother was always with my dad - be it at the bowling alley where they competed on teams many nights of the week, camping with their friends, or playing cards. Mom looked forward to the 3rd Wednesday of the month when she played Bunco with her girlfriends. June would collect tea pots from all over and loved to sew and was a very good seamstress and would make a lot of her and my dad's clothes. She also liked to paint pictures, and of course she would needle point, knit and crochet - which you could see all over her house. June and Jim traveled a lot over the years. Our mom would be seen with my dad at most of the sporting activities that their grand kids were playing in; baseball, hockey, soccer, just to name a few. Grandma always wanted to do the holiday at her house so the family could be together. Easter for the egg hunt where she would hide the eggs all over the yard. Our mom June had a lot of friends. Bunco Girls from a few groups, the friend at bowling, and a lot of people that came to her memorial service because they are still friends. June was a good friend and always had an ear for anyone to lean on. My mom had a good life and was happy most of the time. But with the passing of my dad her life was not the same. Each day with her beloved husband gone, she was getting more lonely and depressed. And as I told my dad before he passed, "Don't worry, we will take care of mom". We did the best we could with her failing health and longing to be with my dad again. She is in a better place now with my dad. No matter how long we have them, we still like to have them a little longer. NO ONE LOVES YOU LIKE YOUR MOTHER. We will all miss and love you forever. Rest in peace.
