Juliana (Roghi) Cairo passed away on Thanksgiving morning 11/22/18. Juliana was born in Marina di Grosseto, Italy to Angelo and Teresa Roghi on December 26, 1932. Juliana's young life was spent in Italy. She had many stories of her days working for the post office in their small beach town and surviving the occupation of German and U.S. soldiers during WWII. As a young girl she was put to work at the small airstrip in her town helping the resident surgeon give aid, burn uniforms, and anything else that was needed during a time of war. At the age of 22, she moved to the United States. Upon arrival, she immediately enrolled in English and citizenship classes. She was proud to call the United States her new home.

She later met the love of her life, William Cairo. The two married on February 15, 1958, a marriage that lasted until William's death in 2011.  After marrying, the young couple started their life in East Los Angeles. Their son Daniel was born in 1961 followed by their daughter Sandi in 1964. In 1978, the family moved to Downey where her children attended high school. After both Daniel and Sandi were married and William's health was deteriorating, Juliana moved to Huntington Beach where she lived the remainder of her life. Juliana is survived by Daniel and Cindy Cairo, and their children Austin, Adam, and Karina. Ray and Sandi Toohey, and their children Olivia and Claire, and her only surviving sibling, Rosanna and her husband Sam Mistretti. Juliana was an incredible Nonna to her grandchildren. She showered them with love and affection and was never too busy to drop everything to come and visit, help, and love her family. Juliana was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She loved her family immeasurably and unconditionally. All that knew her called her affectionately "Nonna". She had a heart of gold and a uncanny ability to make you feel like the only person in the room. Her passing leaves all that loved her in pain and aching for one more moment with her. She was truly an amazing woman. Her strength, resolve, commitment to her faith, and love for her family could never be challenged. She was in a word, amazing. She will forever be missed and her passing a huge void in all of our hearts. Riposa in pace la nostra bella Mamma.
