Juli Hanna was born Julia Ann Creahan on June 24, 1947 in Munich, Germany and was peacefully at rest on August 10, 2024 in Los Alamitos, CA. She was born to Air Force Captain John Thomas Jr. (Cleveland OH) and Hazel Bell (Wright, of Arkansas) Creahan. She was the first of three daughters they lovingly raised in Chaumont, France. Following the loss of her father at 8yo, the family returned to southern California for a new beginning of their lives together. She and her sisters attended St. Felicitas and Perpetua (San Marino) and Ramona Convent (Alhambra). Juli was a member of the first graduating class of The University of California at Irvine. As a drama major, stage acting and improv were her pure joy, and she was eager to master the craft. She honed her natural gifts and expanded her skillset as a member of the UCI Repertoire Theater. She studied with the best of them and her talent didn’t go unnoticed as she was heavily encouraged to pursue her career in “The Industry.” The budding actress followed her other passions - working with children and having a family of her own. She married Michael (Mike) Jay Hanna, an Officer in the Army, in 1968. Soon thereafter, she earned her Teaching Credential.

Juli taught in Sacramento, and various schools around LA County until she and Mike settled in Los Alamitos. A devout St. Hedwig’s parishioner since 1975, she provided support to the parish school wherever needed, including administration, computer program development, and she ultimately served as the Director of the Extended Day Program. She was honored to contribute to the St. Hedwig’s community, where she made good friendships with fellow staff and parishioners, and she recognized it as over 20 years well spent.

She was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, and she loved to travel. She particularly enjoyed mystery novels and historical period pieces. In retirement, she dove into various interests, her top three being: the St. Hedwig’s choir, the in’s-and-out’s historic sailing, and charity through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. She was a terrific wife and mother who cared for the family and met their needs with grace. Juli was especially adept at providing academic and extracurricular support for her children, and those of the community as well. She stated that she had been blessed with a good life and her greatest joy was her family, particularly raising two children with her hardworking and dedicated husband.

Her devotion to God, and strong Roman Catholic faith throughout her life, guided her gentle transition. She is survived by her husband Mike, son Mike Jr., daughter Brin (Kevin) Greer, sister Catherine (Peter) Hornsby, brothers in-law Ron Aubert and Jack Hanna, nieces Jennifer (Milan) Ratkovich , Sierrah Hanna, Julia (Celeste) Kennelly, Jane (Tayler) Glenn, nephews Garth Aubert and Noah Hanna, numerous Creahan cousins, and her extended family and family of friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, uncle Jim Creahan, aunt Helen Hein, uncles and aunts of the Wright family, sister Patricia Heatly, half-brother Dr. George Queen, half-brother George “Boots”, sisters-in-law Bobbi Aubert and Lynn Hanna, and nephew Joshua “Jaggar” Heatly.

We remember a life well lived, replete with compassion, humility, dignity, and a deep love of family. She truly delighted in generating a shared moment of humor with everyone. She offered a smile to whoever crossed her path. Altruistic to the core of her being, Juli will be remembered for her unwavering patience and genuine kindness in the service of others.

In celebration of Juli Hanna, please consider offering Masses for the repose of her soul.
