Logró regresar a casa.

Juan Andrés Meza Hernández was born June 24 th , 1970, in Tijuana B.C. México. The son of Andrés Meza Pérez y Tomasa Hernández de Meza. He is survived by his wife Maria Jordan, son Andres Meza, his mother Tomasa Soto, siblings Beatriz Braxton, Carlos Soto, Daniela Soto, Ricardo Soto, and nephews and nieces.

As a kid he was called “El Topo”, after a beloved kid’s character called El Topo Gigio. He grew up with those he knew as his grandparents, Maria Del Refugio Pérez and Julio Vasquez. He had many friends that still remember him and some even keep in touch decades later.

As a youth, he moved to the United States and assisted school. When he graduated High School, he chose to join the military, The Marine Corps.  Unfortunately, soon after, during the early 90’s, he went to the war in Kuwait called ‘Gulf War, Operation Desert Shield/Storm’. He earned several medals: Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a few others. Despite the distance, he tried to keep in touch with the family, through letters. Once, he sent us a video but behaved as if things were not that serious overseas. I imagine, so as not to worry us. He managed to return home.

Juan enjoyed going out to eat variety of foods, drink some beers, go shopping and wear his new outfits. He did not only go shopping for himself; he shared a tamal, sweet bread, and various gifts for his wife, son, siblings and our mother. He especially enjoyed seeing the expressions from his nephews and nieces when presented with their gifts and it did not need to be their birthday or a special occasion. He liked chatting with people, especially with his mom. He would entertain us with funny memes he posted to social media.  Another of his favorite things he enjoyed, was listening to a variety of music. It was rare to see him and not have his radio by his side.

Not everything was beautiful and not everything was bad. We will miss you, Juan. We love you. Rest in peace.
