Beloved husband and father, Juan Guzm án, 75, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 near Pegueros, Jalisco Mexico.
Juan was born on May 23, 1942 in Pegueros to Sabino and Julia Guzmán, one of nine children. At a very early age he showed a great deal of ingenuity and determination. Since he shared a bed with many of his siblings, as a kid he built a bed of his own with scraps he found in the family farm. He loved to remind everyone that he helped build Pegueros. Juan co-owned (with his father) and drove the first cargo truck in Pegueros and delivered most of the materials needed for new constructions.
Juan married Maria Cabrera in 1963, whom he loved very much. They had a total of eight children. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.
To secure a better future for his family, Juan with his wife and his five kids immigrated to the United States where they settled in the greater Los Angeles area. Juan cared very deeply about his family and his community. He helped many family members get adjusted to the United States by hosting them, helping them secure employment, offering advice, etc. He remained very well connected to his extended family in Mexico. He traveled and vacationed in Mexico regularly. His children fondly remember driving from California to Jalisco in the summers. After he retired he split his time between the U.S. and Mexico.
Juan loved building things and graciously lent a hand to many on their home improvement projects. He particularly enjoyed managing the construction of several homes he owned. Until the day he died he had a building project : a Gazebo in his backyard.
In many ways family was the most important part of Juan’s life. He had nine siblings, eight children and twenty eight grand-children. He loved spending the holidays with all of them. On Christmas day, everyone getting together to open gifts, was a tradition he very much enjoyed. He loved to bond with his family during vacations to a beach destination. During his stays in Mexico he especially enjoyed spending time with his sister's family: the Martín family.
His story will be carried and kept forever by his wife, eight children, twenty eight grandchildren and nine siblings. He will be greatly missed.
