Joyce Ellen Blasnek

September 10, 1937 – October 13, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Ellen Blasnek on October 13, 2018 as a result of her year’s long struggle with Breast Cancer. Joyce passed at her home surrounded by family and friends who visited right up to the end. Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband Cecil of 59 years who passed in 2015. She is survived by her children; Elizabeth, Christopher (Margaret) and Brent (Mary Beth). Joyce absolutely adored her five granddaughters; Stephanie Branstine, Taryn, Holly, Alexandra, and Anna Blasnek. Joyce graduated from Morningside High in Inglewood, attended El Camino Community College and graduated from Cal State Long Beach eventually earning a teaching credential. This education led to her long time teaching career with the Long Beach Unified School District where she taught 4th and 5th grades at both Naples and Patrick Henry Elementary. She was loved by her students, fellow teachers, and all she came in contact with. Joyce and Cecil bought their dream home in Long Beach where they resided for 50 years and raised their family. Joyce was active in the community and a member of the Grace First Presbyterian Church. She volunteered with the American Association of University Women and met on Monday evenings with close church friends to make handmade quilts for new-born infants. Joyce loved books, education, travel, musical plays, and POPS Concerts. She especially liked being surrounded by family and friends. She was a stranger to no one and fondly greeted everyone. Her laugh will always be remembered.

A memorial service will be held at Grace First Presbyterian Church on November 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Please consider donations to Grace First Presbyterian Church or Breast Cancer research/charities in lieu of flowers.
