Jo C. was loved and respected by many. During the 33 years she worked in Hawthorne, she was devoted to the promotion and development of positive aspects of the community. She worked tirelessly to help others by dedicating her time and efforts as a professional relator, loving parent, devout philanthropist, and caring volunteer.
Within the real estate field, Jo C. was well known among her peers as a highly professional and ethical realtor. Over the years, she earned prestigious honors from numerous associations at the state and local levels, including the California Association of Realtors, the South Bay Association of Realtors, and the Hawthorne-?Lawndale Board of Realtors.
Jo C. further gave her time to community organizations such as the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, Hawthorne School District, Centinela Valley Union High School District, Long Beach Lady Shriners, and Women's Division of the Hawthorne Chamber.
Jo C. was recognized and thanked by the Hawthorne City Council for her many years of sharing and caring for her hometown. With her thousands of unheralded acts of kindness, donations made in the form of scholarships, support for youth sports teams, and hundreds of other charitable acts, she vastly improved the community. The Hawthorne City Council proclaimed Tuesday, July 15, 1997, as "Jo C. Thompson Day" in the City of Hawthorne.
Jo C. was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Zurick. She was predeceased by her son Jeffrey Thompson. She is survived by her brother Andy Zurick, his wife Joyce, their daughter Andryce; and her brother Tom Zurick, his wife Lucy, their son Tommy and daughter Mary. Jo C. had a fond love of music and the arts and would ask for any donations to be made to youth music or art programs. As an alternative to a donation, Jo C. would have greatly appreciated a random act of kindness performed in her honor.
In her life, Jo C. loved and served the Lord; she loved and served her neighbors and she feared nothing! Jo C. followed Jesus' commandment as recorded in Mark 12:30-?31: "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all they
strength. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself".
