Joseph John Sorci

Joseph John Sorci, age 89, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 27, 2019. He was born on December 23, 1929 in Los Angeles, California. Joe attended Fremont High School and graduated in 1948.

Joe met his wife Ann Montgomery, at a young adults dance, at St. Matthias church in Huntington Park in 1954. They were married on July 16, 1955 and bought their first and only home in Lakewood that same year. It was in Lakewood where they raised their three daughters, Vickie, Patricia, and Mary Jane.

Joe worked as a machinist for 22 years. He then worked as an operating engineer at Kaiser Permanente in Bellflower and retired in 1996 with 26 years of dedicated service.

Joe was an active member of St. Cyprian Catholic Church serving as an usher, member of the Holy Name Society, Senior Group and served two terms as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 3629.

Joe and Ann enjoyed traveling the world including trips to Mexico, Caribbean, Spain, Jamaica, Italy and the Panama Canal. They also enjoyed many weekend trips to their condo in Palm Desert. Joe was also a great cook and made a mean pot of spaghetti and meatballs, which to this day, no one has the recipe. He enjoyed gardening, wood working, golfing, playing bocce ball and bowling. He even missed bowling a perfect game by one pin!

Joe was patient, compassionate and always put others before himself. He was always the first to lend a hand to someone in need. Joe could fix anything and was quick to offer advice if you were not doing things the correct (his) way. He was often heard saying, "You can do what you want, but if it were me….."

Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann; daughters Patricia and Mary Jane (Jeff), seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Vickie. He will be greatly missed!
