Joseph Andrew Northrop was born on Sep 21, 1927 in Medford, Massachusetts to Joseph and Lucille Northrop. He had a childhood filled with sports and work and play of all kinds. He loved playing baseball and hockey. He was an Eagle Scout. He moved to California as a 14 year old and always worked hard in school and at many part time jobs. He graduated from Wilson High School and from Long Beach City College and USC. Joe was wonderful with numbers and names and loved people. He joined the Navy at age 17 and married his lifelong sweetheart, Beverly Ann Parker, at age 21. Joe and Bev have 4 children, Jill Stauffer, Jan Maxfield, Joan Northrop and Joe Northrop. Joe worked for Southern Cal. Edison for 37 years, was in the Navy or 34 years achieving the rank of Full Commander, and served in Viet Nam. He was a tax consultant for 53 years. He was also active in Lions club, Masons, Elks club, investment clubs, coin club and sang in the church choir all of his adult life. Joe and Bev spent years traveling the world over and he had a passion for travel. He made friends wherever he went and was a good and kind man. Joseph Northrop will be missed by his wife, his children, his 17 grandchildren, his 38 great grandchildren and the many good friends who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. He spent his life trying to help other people.
