On Thursday, January 7, 2021, Jonathan Diaz, 24, passed away. Jonathan was born on July 11, 1996, in Long Beach, California to parents Carlos and Rosi Diaz. He went to CAMS high school where he met friends that became a second family to him. Afterwards, he attended UC Davis where he graduated with a bachelor degree in Economics and a minor in Chicano Studies. Whenever his family visited, he enjoyed giving them a tour of his favorite boba, pizza, and sushi spots.
Anyone who knew Jonathan, was well aware of his love for the Los Angeles Lakers. His favorite player was Kobe Byrant whom he felt a special connection with since Kobe was drafted to the Lakers the same year he was born. He would not miss a single game even if it meant following the game on the radio or on his phone. He found it funny and enjoyed the free slurpees at 7-Eleven on his birthday (7/11) with his family.
Jonathan was a kind and jokeful son and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his sisters: Vannesa, Ariana, and Rashel. Whether it was watching shows, ordering in, going on late-night drives, or annoying them every now and then, Jonathan would always make sure he was there for his sisters to talk or cuddle. With his parents, Jonathan enjoyed cooking, sharing the latest movies, or watching sports. For the past year, he worked with his father at the family mechanic shop, Westside Smog where they purchased and fixed his blue Chevrolet Camaro together.
Jonathan Diaz will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, and friend. He leaves behind memories filled with happiness and laughter.
