John E. Young
June 8, 1942 — April 5, 2021
John E. Young, age 78, passed away peacefully April 5, 2021, surrounded by family, due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia.
Born, June 8, 1942, at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, John was raised in Los Angeles and attended 95 th St. School, Bret Heart Jr. High School, George Washington High School and LA Trade Tech.
He married Catherine A. Young October 8, 1966. They were married 55 years.
John was employed with LA Department of Water and Power, City of Los Angeles, from November 22, 1965 to July 1, 1998. Following a break in employment due to his 1 st retirement, John was re-employed with DWP from September 2002 – October 2012, an additional 10 years, after which he retired a 2 nd time due to health issues.
John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was active in his Church, Boy Scouts, marriage encounter and Spiritual exercises. He and Cathy enjoyed great travel adventures.
His faith sustained him through prostate cancer and Lewy Body Dementia.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine A. Young (Cathy), Lakewood, CA; sons Joseph Young, Riverside, CA, daughter Michelle McCleery, Glenwood Springs, CO, son Jeffrey Young, Lakewood, CA; grandson Christopher Moore, Alameda, CA, and granddaughter Haley Young, Huntington Beach, CA.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ivar and Alva Ljung (Swedish for Young), and sister Jacqueline Harris.
