John Edward Rosique, Jr., age 78, of Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024. John was born on May 31, 1946, in Atmore, Alabama, to John Edward Rosique, Sr., and Mary June Rosique. He was raised in Brewton, Alabama, until 1959, when his family relocated to Lakewood, California. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1964.
In 1969, John answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served honorably during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant (E-5), specializing in Communications and Relay Center Equipment Repair. His exemplary service earned him numerous awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
On October 25, 1975, John married his loving wife, Maxine Rosique, in Long Beach, California. They resided in Lakewood for 17 years before settling in Long Beach. John dedicated 22 years as a Senior Communications Electrician with the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, followed by another 20 years as a Senior Network Engineer at the Los Angeles County Office of Education. He retired in 2018 after a long and successful career.
John took great pride in his family and cherished the time he spent with them. When his children were young, he enjoyed family vacations in their RV, visiting favorite destinations such as Disney World, Yellowstone, and Circus Circus RV Park in Las Vegas for Thanksgiving. John was also an avid bowler for about a decade, with his family often cheering him on every Friday night at Cal Bowl. His highest score was an impressive 299.
For the past 10-plus years, John looked forward to his annual summer road trips with his wife, brothers, sister, and extended family. They would drive to Alabama to visit relatives, fondly referring to these journeys as the "Cracker Barrel Tour" due to their frequent stops at the beloved restaurant chain.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Mary June Rosique; father, John Edward Rosique, Sr.; and sister, Linda Rosique.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maxine Rosique; son, Joseph Rosique; daughter, Jennie Rosique; brothers, Bruce Rosique and David Rosique; sister, Beverly Rosique; and many nieces, nephew's, and cousins. John will be remembered as a man of integrity, dedication, and kindness—a true gentleman who lived his life with purpose and love. His legacy of service, hard work, and devotion to his family will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
