John Linton Junk, 85, passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 2021 from a heart attack. We hold onto God’s promise of being united with those who have gone before us. Until then, Dad will live on in our hearts forever. John was born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. He played football in high school and often talked about his close relationship with his coach, whom he kept in touch with until he passed 2 years ago. One of John’s dreams was to move to California, which he did in 1954 after graduating high school. John enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean war as a Cryptographer, sending and receiving Morse code. John enjoyed the outdoors, his golden retrievers, and was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life. In 1961, he married Nancy Brogneaux and they had two children; Angela and Pamela. John worked for North American Rockwell as a milling machinist and was a UAW union representative for Local 887. Later, he was a business agent for the Teamsters, and eventually started his own consulting business. In his later years, his favorite past times were spending time with family and friends, sharing old stories, having coffee with his friends at the senior center, attending his church’s weekly fish fry during Lent, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers football games with his son-in-law, and enjoyed his occasional chocolate shake. John was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, which is the highest and most prestigious degree. Their principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism serve as the foundation of their Core Value. John is survived by his two daughters: Angela (Brian) and Pamela (Russ). John was “grandpa” to Chase, Sean, Michael (Hannah), Jessica (Chris), and “Papi” to Bear, Liam, and Ollie. He is also survived by his brother Chauncey (Connie), and nieces Carrie (Dennis) and Jaime (Justin). John’s loving sister Judy, mother Evelyn, and father Edwin, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 3955 Orange Avenue, Long Beach, followed by a reception under the tent on the church grounds. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the American Heart Association in remembrance of John. Luyben Dilday Mortuary (562) 425-6401
