John Leonard Fruhwirth, 89, of Huntington Beach, California, passed away on October 19, 2015. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine, his two sons Doug (Rosemary) Fruhwirth, Mike (Kay) Fruhwirth, his two daughters Sue (Gordy) Martin, Mary Page, his four grandchildren Amber and Jonathon Page and Michael (Jasmine) and KJ Garrison, his great grandchildren, Bailey, Katelyn, Aubree and Savanna Garrison, his two brothers Ken and Bill Fruhwirth and his sister Mary Fornshall and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Theresa Fruhwirth, son Jeffrey and brother Alfred. John was born in Sykeston, North Dakota, met the love of his life, Elaine, in Carrington, North Dakota and married her in 1950. After a few years of farming in North Dakota, in 1955 John and Elaine moved their family to Lakewood, California. John worked for Atlantic Richfield Company and retired in 1985. He loved sports, coaching his kids when they were young for which he won many awards and citations from the City of Lakewood and then watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards. He fancied himself as being quite the card shark and he was always happy to take a few dollars from his friends and family in those friendly card games. He was a fan of the Angels and Lakers and got great enjoyment from watching them play. Visitation for family and friends will be at Luyben Family Mortuary on Friday, October 30, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on October, 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pancratius Catholic Church 3519 St. Pancratius Place, Lakewood, CA 90712. John will be laid to rest at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, CA.
