It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Samuel Dietenbeck, known as “Uncle John” to many, he was a beloved stepfather, uncle, great-uncle, step-grandfather and friend, who departed this world peacefully at home on March 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on February 17, 1939, in Zanesville, OH. John was the son of Frederick and Elogine Dietenbeck, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his siblings, Julia, Becky and Charlie.  John was also proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Joann (Jodie) Dietenbeck, with whom he shared a life filled with love. John is survived by his great nephew, Josh Hinds and his wife Ashley, as well as his step-sons, Mike Norman with his wife Lindell, and Matt Norman with his wife Amy, who will all continue to honor his legacy.

In the early 1960s, John moved to California in search of opportunity and found his calling in the world of aeronautical manufacturing. His career in this field, particularly his remarkable rise through the ranks, was a source of immense pride. Upon retiring from Boeing, John and Jodie remained at their home in Los Alamitos, where they spent their golden years nurturing their beloved parrot, Missy. They also enjoyed taking people to their condo in Cancun and taking frequent trips to the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

John's life will be celebrated on April 14, 2026, at Luyben Dilday Mortuary, where family and friends will gather to remember a man whose impact was as profound as his heart was generous. Those who knew John will recall his humor and his unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy is one of resilience, laughter and love.
