John Miller Contreras--Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and dear friend to whomever met his path, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on December 1, 2025 at the age of 92. He was born in Florence, Arizona, on August 30, 1933 to José Jesus and Cleotilde (Tillie) Contreras. He married the love of his life, Maria Gloria Galindo, on February 7, 1959, in Brawley, CA. John had a calm demeanor and was known for his kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness, patience, and grace. In the summer he was the Offical Griller for the family and would barbecue his signature steaks and chicken. John loved nothing more than enjoying a cup of hot coffee at the crack of dawn, playing Lotto, vacationing with his daughter Sylvia and son-in-law Leo, reading, watching Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, gardening, making tamales during the holidays, and enjoying a generous slice of cherry pie. John worked as a mail-carrier for over three decades, and at Christmas time he brought home treats from his grateful customers: candy, fruitcake, cookies, and the like--much to the delight of his children. John also proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958.
John took the entire family to Sunday Mass every week, rain or shine, and raised his family on The Golden Rule. He stressed the importance of faith and prayer, which was passed on to every family member.
John is survived by his loving family: daughters: Lillian, Sylvia, Kathryn, and Christina; son John; granddaughters: Chenine, Brittany, Annisa, Erika, Isabel, Brianna, and Victoria; grandsons: Joseph, Charles (Charlie), John Jr. (Johnny); great-grandson, Adan; great-grandaughters: Charlotte and Zoey; daughter-in-law, Jeanette; sons-in-law Bob, Leo, and Roger, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. His wife, Maria Gloria, preceded him in death in 2023.
