John was born in New York City, New York, the second child of John and Anne Allison. As a young New Yorker, he witnessed the end of the Great Depression and the drama of World War II. He developed a lifelong love for the city as well as his country. After the war, the Coast Guard transferred his father, and the rest of the family migrated to Southern California in May of 1947.
John attended St. Anthony High School and graduated in 1953. He always cherished being a Saint. He went on to Long Beach City College and California State College, Long Beach. As a Forty-Niner, he earned his B.A. in Education and his Masters in Administration. In September of 1957, he began his career as an elementary school teacher in the Magnolia School District in Anaheim. He proudly served as a Vice Principal and then Elementary School Principal from 1966 to June 1991.
While at LBCC, he met the love of his life, Rosemary Reynolds. They wed July 20, 1957. At the end of his first year of teaching, their first child, Marianne, was born. It wasn’t long before their son, John, arrived followed closely by Liz. A few years passed, and the family was completed by Danny and Kathleen.
John lived in Long Beach until retirement, then he and Rosemary moved to Huntington Beach where they have resided for 25 years. They have enjoyed their retirement years and have had the opportunity to travel around the United States and the world.
John and Rosemary enjoyed nearly 60 years of married life together. In the years since, his family has added 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren with one more on the way. He is also survived by his 4 siblings, Joan, Pat, Don, and Maureen as well as a large number of nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Johnny.
