Joann Marie Koester

Born October 31, 1938 and passed away October 21, 2023 at the age of 84.

JoAnn was born in Denver, Colorado and as a young girl, her parents relocated to Long Beach, CA. JoAnn graduated from Jordan High School in Long Beach.

After High School, JoAnn secured her first professional job as a legal secretary. When she was 21, she began a career in the airline business as a flight attendant at Continental Airlines, which was eventually bought out by United Airlines and she continued to work for United as a supervisor overseeing flight attendants until she retired.

Working for the airlines, JoAnn fell in love with traveling. In her mid twenties, she met her husband, Ray, and they were married for 38 years and the two of them traveled the world together. France and Germany quickly became two of their favorite destinations.

JoAnn and her husband resided in Manhattan Beach so she could be close to LAX where she was based and she loved the location of her home, often referring to it as a “bedroom community” where she befriended many of her neighbors.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband Ray Koester. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Lewis, her brother, Roy Askine, and several great nieces and nephews.

JoAnn enjoyed spending time with her family, friends & neighbors, going to Curves to work out and most importantly to her, attending church in support of her strong Catholic faith.

She will truly be missed by many!
