Jason Craig
Smith
December 3, 1979 – March 19, 2026
Jason Craig Smith, born on December 3, 1979, in Harbor City, California, passed away on March 19, 2026, in Lakewood, California. After a courageous and relentless battle with aggressive cancer, Jason is now free from pain and suffering, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and resilience.
Jason's journey was marked by a fierce determination and an unwavering spirit. Those who knew him witnessed his tenacity in facing life's most daunting challenges. Though the fight was grueling, Jason's bravery illuminated every moment, offering hope and courage to those around him. His departure leaves a profound void, but also a sense of peace knowing he rests without pain.
Jason’s life was deeply enriched by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nicole Costa, who stood steadfastly by his side through every step of his battle. He was a loving stepfather to Jakob and Conner, whose lives he touched profoundly. Jason’s mother, Barbara DeAnda, and stepfather, Raul DeAnda, along with his brother Nick Smith, provided enduring love and support. His extended family—brother-in-law Mike Costa, aunt Loretta Rose, and uncle Richard Rose—cherished him dearly. Additionally, Jason was part of the iLWU family, a community that reflected his hard work and determination.
Though Jason's physical presence is no longer with us, the memory of his kindness, perseverance, and warmth will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His journey reminds us all of the power of hope and the unbreakable bonds of family and friendship.
As we remember Jason Craig Smith, we honor a life at the waters edge as a Longshoreman—a life that faced adversity with courage, a heart filled with love, and a spirit that continues to inspire us all. May he rest in peace, embraced now by tranquility after a life so bravely fought. Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I'll MISS YOU until we meet again.
