James Sartain entered eternal life on August 16, 2016. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores. Jim was born in Kansas, and moved to Long Beach with his family during World War II. He was a proud member of the St. Anthony High School class of 1950. Following a stint in the Army Paratrooper Corps, Jim earned his BA from Long Beach State, and a Master’s from USC. He spent his professional life in the aerospace industry, and enjoyed traveling and attending the theater in his retirement. Jim was an active member of St. Hedwig Parish. The greatest joy of his life was his five grandchildren - Sarah, Caroline, Nathan, Frances, and Molly. He is survived by his daughters Julianne Bancroft and Stephanie Herrera, sister Ann Kirby, brother Patrick Sartain, and brother-in-law Cardinal William Levada. A vigil service will be held Wednesday, August 24, at 7:30 p.m., and a funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, August 25, at 10:00 a.m., both at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jim’s name to St. Anthony High School.
