In loving memory of James Edward Roop

December 2, 1932 – December 20, 2024

James Edward Roop, 92, the son of Thomas and Edna Roop, was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was the third of nine children. He also went by Jim, Edward ,  Eddie and “Mr. Roop”.

After graduating high school he was drafted into the Army where he served for 2 years. During this time he was stationed in Germany and saw many places in Europe.  His military service is memorialized in a plaque at Del Valle Park in Lakewood, CA.

He met and married the love of his life, Glenda Roop (Marshall) in 1958. A couple of years later they followed some friends to Lakewood, CA, making it their home where they have lived for over 60 years. James was a dedicated professional in the transportation industry for over 50 years.  He was a consummate professional and successful independent owner/operator. He loved driving his big rig and was honored to achieve perfect driving and safety records throughout his career. He was an extremely hard worker and honest to a tee.

James is preceded in death by his father, Thomas, mother, Edna, brothers: Jack, Kenny and Tommy, and sisters: Laverne and Darla. He is survived by his wife, Glenda, and children Sandra and husband Steve, Holly and husband Tom, and Paul, grandchildren: Kevin and wife Lilia, Cody and wife Sarah, and Kelly, and great-grandson, Austin.  He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara, Beverly, Sharon and countless friends and relatives.

Rest in peace James. Your courage, love, humor, and values will never be forgotten by your family who loves you so much.
