James McIntyre
1924--2015
James McIntyre was born in Long Beach, California September 10th 1924 and passed away March 17th 2015 in Eugene, Oregon. James is survived by his children Kathryn (Ray) McEuen, James (Nancy) McIntyre, Mary Ellen (Mike) DeFehr, Pam (Pat) Kenneally, Michael (Lori) Probst, Katherine (Patrick) McGee, Claire (Bill) Sills and Jim (Pam) Probst, 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. His brother Paul W. McIntyre and niece Anne Hutchinson.
James was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Lee Walker McIntyre in 1973 and more recently Sheila A. McIntyre in November 2014. They shared 40 happy years together as a blended family. Also preceded by his brother Henry John and sister Mary. James served in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1943-1952. He is a charter life member of U.S. Merchant Marine Veterans World War II. He and Sheila spent many hours working toward the restoration of the S.S. Lane Victory, a National Historic Landmark moored in San Pedro. Prior to his retirement he worked for the U.S. Postal service for 34 years. James was a life time member of the Y.M.C.A. and a long time member of the Sierra Club and 100 Peaks Club. He climbed 115 local peaks and numerous Sierra peaks. He and Sheila spent 6 years traveling in their motor home to all 48 states, and took many trips abroad. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
A memorial service is set for Thursday, March 26th at 11:30 a.m. at Luyben Dilday Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Road in Long Beach.
