James “Kimo” Mata was born on May 13, 1940 in Hilo Hawaii to Alan Mata and Virginia Montarvo-Mata, and was the sixth of seven children. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Mata of thirty-seven years, and seven children: James A. Mata, Gavien Mata, Darla McCandless, Michelle Carvalho, Steven Amadril, Jonathan Mata and Jessica-Lynn Mata. Kimo was also the proud Papa to twenty-four grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Albert Mata. He loved all music and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice which allowed him to spend the majority of his life as a singer and entertainer. He learned to play piano on his own without knowing how to read a single note, and passed his love of music down to his children. Kimo was a very charismatic person and deeply loved by so many. He is and will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him.
