James W. Hall
On June 6, 2016, James Wilmer (Jim) Hall, from Long Beach, California, passed away at Artesia Christian Home in Artesia, California. Born June 27, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the youngest of 3 children of John Edgar and Eleanor Hall. After his father died when he was 10 months old, he grew up in a one parent household during the Great Depression. Jim started working at an early age, and graduated from High School. He worked as a mechanic until enlisting in the military, serving with honor in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, flying in the B-17 bomber on various missions. Upon discharge, he continued his work as a mechanic in Indianapolis. There he met his future wife Ursula Hall. They married in 1956. He and Ursula had two boys, John Edgar (1957) and Mark Steven (1958). In 1965, the family moved to Long Beach, California. Jim worked at the Douglas Aircraft Company plant of McDonnell Douglas in Torrance, retiring in 1986. Upon retirement, he and Ursula enjoyed spending time with their families, particularly their grandchildren, friends, and travelling---going on many cruises, and visiting many different places around the world. Jim and Ursula attended frequent daily mass at their parish in Long Beach, St. Cornelius Catholic Church. They continued to reside in their home in Long Beach until both required more advanced personal care and moved to Artesia Christian Home.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Ursula, and is survived by sons John E. Hall and Mark S. Hall, daughters-in-law, Denise (John) and Carol (Mark), grandchildren Jeremy (John and Denise) and Brittany, Derek, and Katie (Mark and Carol).
