JAMES LEROY DIEHL

June 1, 1927 - December 16, 2019

James Diehl, also known as “Jimmy” was born in Iowa City, Iowa and passed away in Long Beach California.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter Dolores Bennett and Grandson Dakotah Bennett. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Diehl and his parents Lawrence Diehl and Genevieve Miller Diehl.

Jimmy was born in Iowa City, Iowa and attended his entire school years in Iowa as well. After High School he enlisted in the Navy in 1945, and that’s where he found the love of his life, his wife, Lucille. They married November 28, 1959 and lived happily for 58 years until Lucille’s passing in February 2017. In August, 1960, their one and only daughter Dolores was born in Boston, MA. In 1963, the family moved to Long Beach, CA where they both lived out the rest of their lives.

Jimmy served 25 years in the United State Navy and retired as a Chief. After retiring, he then worked for the County of Los Angeles as a Health Investigator where he then retired after 20 years’ service.

Jimmy and Lucille were very active and were Pillars at St. Cornelius Church. They are sole contributors in establishing the school’s “The Diehl Library.”

Jimmy enjoyed golfing and fishing with his buddies, nice dinners, brief walks around the block with his love Lucille. He also loved doing puzzles for hours and went to Mass every day. He loved his music and loved to dance with his daughter Dolores. Jimmy mostly enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

Jimmy was the most loving, kind, caring, compassionate and humble Husband, Father and Grandfather on this planet and will be missed dearly.
