Known to all as Elaine, she grew up in rainy Portland, Oregon. She loved to tell stories about her life there; the old theaters, her favorite restaurants, and all of her school friends she kept in contact with long after she moved away. She moved to Southern California where she met our dad, James Carter. They started their family in Long Beach in the 1950's; raising three daughters and one son.
She instilled her love of music and old movies in all of us kids.
Together with her mother and grandmother, she hosted many big, happy family gatherings. For every holiday, birthday, and other occasions, the tables were always generously filled with food, pasta, pies, and cakes and surrounded by kids and other relatives.
She was a hugger; a lover of life and sunshine, with cats and children always near, she made our house a home. A friend to all; her kitchen counter was where all the neighbors would stop by to talk, laugh, and share.
She was a Christian lady, loving and caring to all; neighbors and strangers alike. Wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother…her larger-than-life personality, her humor, her affection.
She will always be remembered for her kindness and encouraging spirit.
Everyone loved her. What better legacy can a person leave behind?
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James, and leaves behind four children; Cathy, Caren, Brenda, and Russell, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, their families, and numerous friends.
