Henry F. Leyn died at his Lakewood home on July 9, 2016, after a year-long battle with cancer. Henry was 79-years-old. Henry is survived by his sister, Lydia, his daughters, Judy and Carolyn, son, Brian and his eight grandchildren, Meghan, Anthony, Danielle, Michael, Annalise, Madison, Tanner, and Hailey. Henry was born on April 8, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Rene and Palmyra Leyn. Shortly after his birth, the Leyn family moved to the Lakewood area in Southern California. This is where Henry started and finished his education, enjoyed a career, and built a family. Henry was a graduate of Saint Anthony’s High School in Long Beach, as well as a graduate of Long Beach City College. Henry proudly served as a Reservist in the United States Coast Guard from 1958 to 1963, where he patrolled the waters off the Southern California coast. Henry worked for City of Lakewood in the Public Works Department from 1984 till 2004 when he officially retired from working. Henry had three loves in his life, family, his dogs, and socializing with people. Henry enjoyed spending most of his time planning his days around his grandchildren’s activities, whether it was attending gymnastics or cheerleading competitions, baseball, football or softball games, or even drumline competitions. You could always count on grandpa being there. He also enjoyed the many family BBQ’s, birthday parties, and holidays that were celebrated throughout the year. It just gave him more time to spend with his family. Henry always had a smile on his face, he never complained, and he was always interested in how you were doing even if you were a total stranger he had never met before. Henry truly was a people person, with a kind heart.
There will be a Memorial Service for Henry Leyn on Saturday August 27, 2016, at 10:00 am at the CrossPoint HB Church located at 7661 Warner Avenue, Huntington Beach, California.
