Henry “Hank” A. Leon
Born – 11 July, 1938
Entered Rest – 14 May, 2021
Henry Anthony Leon was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Joyce Joseph Leon and Edna Albertine Blanchard. He left his mortal body on May 14, 2021, at his home in Colton, California, which he called his sanctuary. His passing was due to complications of cancer and its treatments.
He was born into humble circumstances and as a young man set his mind to making a better life. He was a fine student and enjoyed learning throughout his life. However, because of social and financial circumstances, he left school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, earning his high school diploma later. He remained with his spouse and companion, Muriel A. Broyard, for the greater part of the last 60 years.
He saved enough money to help move his entire family from New Orleans to Los Angeles in 1962.
Though he was interested in academics and teaching, due to his distaste for politics he opted for a good blue-collar union job with General Motors Corp., from which he retired with benefits and a pension.
Hank enjoyed spending time with his family, preparing and sharing meals together, baseball and tennis. In his later years he was also studying chess.
He was generous with charities and most anyone who had need of monetary support. He enjoyed helping others in time of need.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Edna, and his siblings Jack, Geraldine, Marlene “Moline” and Oliver.
He is survived by:
Spouse, Muriel Ann
Siblings, Shirley and Ruth
Children, Duane (Susan), Karen “Del” (Stephen) and Michael
Grandchildren, David (Dana), Valarie, Kelly
Grand Grandchildren, Cameron Owen, Dakota and Dylan
And a good number of cherished nieces and nephews.
