Harry Minor was born in San Pedro, California to Mallory and Evelyn Minor on March 7, 1928. Harry attended Willard, Jefferson, and Wilson High School. For his three years at Wilson he was on the varsity teams and lettered in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He was a member of the Jinx Busters, which was the first football team to beat Poly High School. He had college scholarship offers for both football and baseball, but decided to sign a professional baseball contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Harry played and managed minor league baseball for 13 years, before deciding to become a scout with the Braves. In 1967 he came to the New York Mets where he was a scout, a national cross checker, and assistant to the General Manager.  Harry contributed to the success of the Mets winning the World Series in 1969 and 1986. He was awarded Scout of the Year in 1984 by the Mets, in 1996 at the MLB winter meetings he was awarded West Coast Scout of the Year, and in 2013 Harry become the first scout to ever be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame.  Harry is also a member of the Hall of Fame at Wilson High School, The Century Club, and Long Beach Baseball. Harry was proud to be a founding member of the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation. The PBSF is an organization that assist scouts in need, and in 2007 the foundation awarded Harry with the George Genovese Lifetime Achievement Award.


Harry is survived by the love of his life Elizabeth Minor. Daughters- Debra Minor Kent, Becky (Dan) Schmitz, and Son-Bob (Patty) Minor. Harry was proud to have nine grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren, and  numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his Son Steve Minor, Sisters- Evelyn (Sug) White, Lois Guyser, Mallory Ann Minor, and Vallory Minor.


Harry was a sports All-Star and a MVP (Most Valuable Person), Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend. Harry will be remembered for his kindness, his jokes, and his great sense of humor. He will be missed... but never forgotten.
