Harriet Lucille (Fisher) Weisenberger
1923 – 2023
Harriet was born January 13, 1923 on a dairy farm in Lamartine WI where she milked the cows and drove the team of horses with the hay loader. She unapologetically ordered milk while on dinner dates and notoriously tagged along with a friend to the Miss Dairy Queen competition and ended up taking home the crown. This was just the beginning of a beautiful life filled with service, family, career and many friendships.
Harriet was the 3rd child of 6 born to Charles W and Harriet G (Landreman) Fisher. After high school she entered nurse’s training at St Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI, joined the Cadet Nurse Corps in her senior year and reported for duty at Camp McCoy, WI (now Fort McCoy) in 1944. Upon completing military basic training, she joined the Navy along with several friends. Military service brought her to the West Coast where she was stationed at the Long Beach Naval Hospital, now the Long Beach VA Medical Center. This is where she would meet her future husband, Lt. Paul J Weisenberger. Harriet worked the majority of her lengthy career at St Mary’s Hospital in Long Beach CA while raising 7 children. At the age of 52 she underwent training for a new nursing specialty called Enterostomal Therapy which she enjoyed until her retirement in 1988. Retirement brought extensive international travel with her husband Paul and many days volunteering for the Red Cross and local flu clinics. She was also a dedicated volunteer on the Bereavement Committee at St Bonaventure Parish in Huntington Beach CA. The Red Cross honored Harriet for her years of service and for donating over 100 pints of blood throughout her lifetime. She was loved by all who knew her, especially her children who each were made to feel special and loved.
Harriet passed away on December 28, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Paul J Weisenberger, son Paul Dennis Weisenberger (wife Sylvia survives), her parents and her 5 siblings, Gladys Marggi, Marian Kettenbeil, William Fisher, Agnes Breitzman and Sr Joan Fisher.
