Harriet was the first child born to William and Belle Hoogeveen on Dec 5, 1920 in Prinsburg, MN. There would be 10 to come- 2 brothers and 8 sisters.  Her aspirations of one day being a teacher were cut short when she had to leave school after 8th grade to help her mother who had given birth to triplet girls. When not helping out at home, she was helping out new mothers in and around Brooten, MN. At age 21, Harriet moved to Grand Rapids, MI with some other girlfriends. This was during WWII and she found work running a large machine that normally a man would have operated. She lost a fiancé to the war. She then returned to Brooten, MN and worked in a general store. Mom had opportunity to go to CA with friends. She found work as a nanny for 2 different families but then went back to Brooten. It was during this period that she began dating Cornie DeKruyf, eventually getting married in Artesia, CA on Dec 15, 1948. Moving back to Brooten, they bought a farm and started their family. Kay, Ed and Janice were born over the next 3 years.  Due to several unfortunate circumstances, they had to sell the farm. They then moved back to CA and added Gary & Philip. They suffered the loss of a baby boy. Then on Mom’s 43rd birthday, Charles was born. After Cornie passed in April 1968, with the help of good friends she was able to buy the house on 185th Place where she lived for the next 35 years and raised her 6 children. Harriet sold Avon for a period of time as well as cleanied houses for the next 25 years. When she could no longer meet the physical demands of cleaning, she started babysitting for a family with 2 young boys, which she did for several years. In 2004 Harriet moved to the Artesia Christian Home. It was always a challenge to find her in her room because the many activities that demanded her attention- playing Rummiku &  Bingo. She made many new friends and maintained old friendships as well. Harriet’s life was filled with family. She enjoyed seeing her children marry and start families of their own. She was able to make many trips to MN over the years and also enjoyed outings and trips with her children. Her greatest joy would be her family and she was certainly the centerpiece of many family gatherings. She confessed her love for the Lord at an early age and was a member of Trinity CRC for 59 years. Harriet leaves her legacy to 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren. She is survived by 2 brothers and 7 sisters.
