Harold Whalen, of Long Beach, CA, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020. Harold was born in York, North Dakota. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was devoted to his wife Josie, family, friends and faith. Harold attended the University of North Dakota before enlisting in the USAAC. He was a P-51 pilot in the 14th Air Force and served in China during WW II. After the war, Harold received his engineering degree from the Northrop Institute of Technology and went to work for North American Aviation/Rockwell INT’L. Harold was an avid golfer, loved to read and was devoted to his faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His survivors include eight children, Maureen, Byron, Keith, Shannon, Vaughn, Patti, Larry and Jim, 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Tyrone and sister-in-law, Arlene. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josie, a daughter Joanne, his parents Dora and Michael, sister Mercedes and his brother Michael. A rosary will be held at 3:00pm on December 10 at Luyben/Dilday Mortuary located at 5161 E. Arbor Rd., Long Beach, CA. Graveside services will be at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach on Friday December 11 at 11:00am.
