Gregory Edward Loya

Gregory Edward Loya passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Greg is survived by his children Jethro, Crosby, and Lola, and his Amor, Esther Banuelos. Greg was a devoted father, a 2023 graduate of CSULA with Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and a U. S. Coast Guard Veteran of 10 years.

Born in Long Beach, California on December 24, 1986, to Robert and Paula Loya. Greg was the third born of Rob and Paula’s four children, Paul Leonard, Eric Martin, and Amanda Nicole.

Greg attended St. Cyprian Elementary School, Lakewood High School where he played Varsity Water Polo and Varsity Swim as a Freshman. He attended 1 year at CSULB before he enlisted in U.S. Coast Guard spending 10 years in active service. While in the Guard he attended USCG A School to become a Food Service 1 (Chef) and graduated at the top of his class. Generally, on each ship he was assigned, as the sole chef, he marveled his Ships’ crew with his gift of using spices and creative menus for three meals every day for as many as 300 people. He was honorably discharged with the rank of FS 2, Petty Officer Second Class (E5). After Greg rejoined the civilian life, he continued to use his cooking skills to cater local events for family and friends. Greg was a man who valued family, hard work, honesty, and integrity in himself.

One of Greg’s passions was music. He wrote, played, and entertained all with his amazing guitar style and vocals. A second passion was the ocean and surfing. He was a Skilled fluid-style surfer respected by fellow wave-riders.

His greatest passion was his love of his children. Greg loved to play guitar and sing to them, have them help him cook dinner, take them camping, going to the beach, play video games, or just hanging out.

A memorial Mass will be held on October 14th at 10:30 am at St. Cyprians Catholic Church in Long Beach California. Greg will be interned with his fellow Veterans at the National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
