Gilbert Frank Haddad passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2024 at his home in Long Beach, CA - surrounded by family. He was 95 years old.
Born and raised in Detroit, MI in August 1928, he and his family moved to Los Angeles in 1943. He served his country in the immediate aftermath of WWII in the Army Air Force and upon returning home he met and married the love of his life Hilda in November 1949. They settled on Long Beach in 1954 and raised five daughters in the same home he owned for 70 years. He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance in the 1960s, then owned Gil's Long Beach Plating until his retirement in 2011.
A great family man and a loyal friend to many, he was admired for his big heart, excellent sense of humor, sharp wit, and wonderful Lebanese cooking.
Gilbert was predeceased by his parents Frank and Marion Haddad (née Nusser), his wife of 69 years Hilda (née Wickham), his daughter Michelle, and many friends and extended family. He is survived by his sister Christina Monterastelli (Albert), and his daughters Terri Reeves (Steve) and their sons Jason and Kirk, Gilda Martin (Danny) and their children Joe and Jennifer, Barbara Zehner (Rick) and their children Matt and Michelle, and Rose O'Brien (Larry) and their children Katrina and Kevin -- and 19 great-grandchildren.
Gilbert will be honored at St. Maria Goretti Church on June 7th at 11:30am.
