Moms Obituary

Geraldine Louise Alonzo Conboy unexpectedly passed away at the age of 54 on June 20 th 2020.

Geraldine, better known as Geri or Bulie, was born to Demetrio and Jesse Alonzo on September 25 1965, the youngest of seven kids. All of her life was spent in the Lakewood/Long Beach area and she attended Mayfair High School and Long Beach City College. Growing up, she had a passion for sports and played on many little league baseball teams (where she was often the only girl). She was also an excellent skateboarder and spent a lot of time at the local skate park. Geri had a huge love for music and had seen almost every great rock, punk, and country band in her lifetime, attending well over 100 concerts.

In 1993, she birthed the first love of her life, Kendra (26 years old), who she always called her “Booboos.” Although they quickly learned that they were opposites, with Kendra being a total girly-girl and Geri being a total tomboy, the bond they shared as mother and daughter was so strong, because Geri never wanted Kendra to be anything but herself. She taught her to be kind, sweet, caring, compassionate, and to have a great sense of self-respect and respect for others. Geri always made it known how proud and supportive she was of the daughter she raised into a woman.

In 2003, ten years later, she birthed the second love of her life, Reilly (17 years old), who she always called her “Bubby.” Geri and Reilly did everything together and had the strongest mother and son bond ever. They shared a passion of art and creativity, something that she was so incredibly proud of. She taught her son the importance of being kind, caring, compassionate, unique, and respectful to others. He excelled in academics, as a result of her encouragement and never-ending support. All of her greatest qualities will live on in Reilly, who she was so proud to call her son.

Twenty-six years ago, Geri met her soulmate, Brian Gallagher. He is her best friend and father to her son. They loved each other deeply and passionately and were truly one another’s other half. She was always happiest spending Friday nights with Brian in their beautiful backyard, grilling and listening to music, watching any sporting event on TV, or going out for happy hour to their favorite restaurants. They were truly, madly in love with one another and together they created a beautiful life for themselves and their family.

Geri’s other great loves included her family. Nothing was more important to her than family. She loved going over to the house she grew up in for family parties, game nights, dinners, or just casual hangouts with her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Her sisters Charlotte and Dorothy meant the world to her, she was so thankful to be their little sister. They talked on the phone almost every day and not a week went by where they didn’t see each other. The three of them were the glue that held this large, Alonzo family together.

Geri loved animals all her life and had various pets, including amazing cats (Stolie and Punky) and an amazing, one-of-a-kind dog named Otter, that she picked out herself and loved as if he were her own child.

Geri loved her job, working for almost 20 years in food service as a lunch lady for Bellflower Unified School District at Mayfair High School. She made amazing co-worker friends, who said she would always crack jokes or sing silly songs about food. She was always incredibly kind to the kids and befriended many throughout the years. Geri was truly proud of her job as a lunch lady.

Geri will also live on in the hearts of the many life-long friends she made throughout the years, including her in-laws the Gallagher family and the Conboy family.

Geri was a unique, one-of-a-kind spirit who was unapologetically herself. She loved her kids, her husband, her dog, her family, and her sisters. She loved watching Dodger baseball and could be heard a block away cheering them on from her living room. She loved college football and basketball. She really loved any kind of sporting event. She loved backwards hats and beanies. She loved standing up for what she believed in. She loved holiday traditions and decorating. She loved cooking and baking and prided herself on making delicious meals for her family. She loved blasting music and singing along. She loved dancing anytime and anywhere. She loved going to concerts. She loved gardening and growing things. She loved hanging out in her living room and watching movies and TV. She loved trips to the 99 cent store and getting a great deal, always so excited to share her bargains with whoever would listen. She loved coming up with unique and thoughtful gift ideas for people. She loved going places and doing things, whether just walking around Seal Beach or going to LA and exploring museums. She loved going on family trips and making new memories. She loved to make people laugh and be goofy. She loved her Stevie (Kendra’s boyfriend) and talking music with him. She loved being a friend. She loved being a sister. She loved being an aunt. She loved being a wife. She loved being a mom.

There’s so much more to say about Geraldine Louise Alonzo-Conboy. She’s impacted so many lives and will be deeply missed. She will be joining her beloved parents in heaven, but will forever be a part of the lives here on Earth in all the things that she loves, the people she loves, and most especially, Kendra, Reilly, and Brian.
